HOLIDAY HOMEGOODS

Unique Homegoods for the Holidays

One of my most favorite and frustrating functions of owning an upscale retail store was curating and buying for the holidays.  The store challenge – how to look stunningly elegant and festive without looking like Santa’s Workshop just exploded. Adding to the mix, having a wide and varied price point range to suit a largely diverse client base.

Keeping in mind once the holidays over – were the items something to put away till the next holiday season, or did they have swanky staying power to be displayed all year?

Fan Favorites

Items seemingly moved well having a story attached. The beautiful antique teapot from Morocco flew off the shelf compared to a similar looking cookie cutter one (all be it very “Target-ess”).

Stories sold. Unique, one of a kind gifts allows the receiver to feel a bit more special.

Additionally, goods supporting a cause were some of my favorites to buy especially during the holidays. Beautifully crafted items by women for women is always a winning combination.

One of my favorites is Global Good Partners

“Buy Handmade – Change Women’s Lives”

Curating products from across the globe created by women with dollars going back to those communities.

Global Good Partners Mountain Bowls LE SOUK CERAMIQUE $14

Shop local- and responsibly online

I encourage all of you to shop local when available. Our purchases allow the small shopkeepers to keep the doors open and let me tell you from experience, it is a brutal retail world out there.

However, if you are looking for online gorgeous unique homewares, for your design inspired friends one of my favorites is –

Maison Numen.

They travel around the world looking for highly skilled makers and innovative designers who preserve their cultural identity adapting it to contemporary life. From a statement centerpiece in iconic Barro Negro from Oaxaca to modern ceramics crafted in England with traditional Japanese techniques, their pieces tell the story of the people who make them.

They want to tell the story behind the object, the traditional techniques used to make them and the cultural background that make each piece.

Maison Numen is all about a new concept of luxury where provenance and savoir-faire are in the front and center of our curatorial process.

Jessica Macias, Co-Founder, and CEO looks at the objects of Maison Numen as a soulful piece; an object with vitality; with a rich past and a long future ahead. It’s design- it’s culture – it’s history.’

“At Maison Numen we want to find connections. What connects us with tradition, with culture, with our own human nature”

Here are my top Maison Numen picks for some unique Holiday gifts with all year staying power
